Salt of the Earth

(The Laboratory)

This is my final scenography piece. It is inspired by James Hansen and his talks on climate change and the melting of the ice caps . My piece focuses on changes over time. Ice melts to reveal pictures of Venice, whilst the drips of water dissolve the salt below it. The costume was created by using pieces of fabric that had been left outside to be affected by the elements, such as harsh wind, rain and sea. I then combined the different fabric to make a dress. The design of the dress was inspired by the sea and the images of the fabric during the process.

An Imagined Solitude

This is a third year group production project in which my main focus was on costume. An Imagined Solitude was a physical theatre piece inspired by the work of Edward Hopper, the 1930s and blues music. When designing the costumes I wanted the colours of the dresses to reflect those of Hopper's paintings. The style of the dress aimed to symbolise the understated nature of his work.  I worked alongside a peer with designing, making the dresses and sourcing the clothing.  The male costumes were intended to be reminiscent of those worn in 1930s America and resemble the characters in Hopper's paintings.
